Welcome to the Caterpillar Cross Stitch 'Stitcher of the Month' competition for August 2021 where the winner will walk away with a £20 gift voucher! I love this community we've built together and I want to showcase the personality and story of a special stitcher each month.
Every one of you is so valued and I want to recognise and celebrate your contributions through this monthly giveaway. On the first day of every month, I'll ask for your nominations. You can nominate yourself or someone else.
Simply email us at support@caterpillarcrossstitch.com (with Stitcher of the Month in the subject line) with your full name, location and include:
1. 3 x photos of some recent stitching (any design or brand)
2. 1 x clear, well lit, high resolution photo of yourself or the nominee
3. Let us hear about your personality, background and experience with stitching including a tip for beginners (300 words minimum please)
4. Your favourite piece, how you started stitching and why you love it!
The winner will receive a £20 Caterpillar Cross Stitch gift voucher and have their work shared on social media, our website and in the next email! At the end of each month, the Caterpillar Cross Stitch team will pick one winner based on the set criteria: creativity, interesting story, enjoyment and passion for cross stitch and overall impression. The winner will be contacted by email and will be interviewed for our blog and social media channels.
And now on to our WINNER for August 2021... Congratulations Becca!
Hello! My name is Simon and I'd like to nominate my wife, Becca Ella for Stitcher of the Month. We live in Peterborough, UK.
Becca started cross stitching about 2 years ago after suffering from mental health issues which stopped her from enjoying hobbies she used to enjoy. Her Welsh best friend, Carys introduced her to cross stitching to aid her on her road to recovery and give her a hobby to enjoy again. She took to it like a fish to water and caught the bug instantly. After borrowing a few supplies she just couldn't stop. I’m forever finding threads here, there and everywhere! It took her out of a dark place and into the light and she’s infinitely better because of it.
She’s a down to earth, straight talking, ambitious Geordie lass who loves a brew and a natter with her friends and family and an even more loving wife. Affectionate mother to our fur babies; Effy (her border collie), 4 guinea pigs and the queen of the household, our cat Maya, her love of all things fluffy with 4 legs has transferred to her cross stitching with her enjoyment of the animal prints, which are her favourites.
My favourite piece that she has made is her raccoon in the trees design which she made for her Mam. The fact that she started the piece soon after starting her journey into the craft, amazes me exponentially. Carys called her brave for trying the design as her second project and she’s been stitching for years and years! So for someone who is very experienced to say that and for it to come out as good as it did is incredible. I look at it almost every day and I’m stunned each time with the level of detail and realism of the project.
Now, I don’t know the first thing about cross stitching, but her explanation to anyone thinking about getting into the craft would be that it is essentially painting by numbers but with threads. Also, one thing that all first time stitchers should invest in is a needle minder! I see her use the ‘Be Brave, Be Strong’ needle minder all the time after many expletives of “where did that flaming’ needle go now!?”
In my opinion, another thing she would recommend to beginners, as she has recommended to me, would be just try it! Start with a basic project and get a feel for the craft then branch out from there. Get out of your comfort zone or find a design theme that you love and enjoy. It's hard not too!
