A crochet-a-long works differently to a normal kit. You don't see the finished blanket when you order it. Each part arrives by email on a set date, you crochet it, then you wait for the next one, along with everyone else doing the same thing at the same time.
That's the appeal. A blanket is a long project and it's easy to lose momentum halfway through. Working to a schedule with other people keeps you going, and there's something in seeing a hundred versions of the same part appear in the group in different lighting on different sofas.
The blanket is worked in panels using UK treble crochet, in five shades of aran weight yarn on a 5mm hook. You crochet each panel in rows, join them, then add a border to finish. If you've made a granny square and want something bigger, this is the sensible next step: the stitches stay simple, the scale is what changes.
You'll get six PDF pattern parts and a video tutorial for each one, so every new technique is demonstrated before you try it. The finished blanket measures 90 x 120cm.
