When crafting worlds collide... they produce something wonderful! Are you a one craft kinda person or do you try a bunch of different things? I've always loved the simplicity of quilting designs and wondered how they'd fare being converted into cross stitch. Keep reading to find out!
We are so excited to share our brand new collaboration cross stitch kit and pattern called the Collider Quilt! We've teamed up with the wonderful Claire, the designer behind the brand Made Just Sew, who has a real passion for modern quilting and finding the joy in making things.
Local to us here in Warwickshire UK, Claire travelled the short distance up to Kenilworth Castle (near Caterpillar Cross Stitch HQ) where we chose to take some fabulous shots of both the quilt and cross stitch in the wild!
We also filmed a full video interview with Claire where she described her quilting journey and inspiration behind the Collider Quilt. Head over to our YouTube channel HERE to watch this or click the image at the bottom of this page.
We reached out to Claire over Instagram because her choice of colour and pattern design was absolutely mesmerising! The beauty and repetitive nature of her quilt designs make them suitable for beginners and experienced crafters alike. We both share a love for creating fun and modern pieces that can be passed down for generations to come.
The Collider Quilt pattern translates beautifully into cross stitch, with each section of the design being turned into stitches that ultimately create the same pattern. Claire kindly sent us a swatch of each fabric colour so that we could match these perfectly with the DMC thread shades chosen! Our favourite is the mustard shade called 'Pickle!'
Claire tells us “the pattern is based on a block design, rotated in a set of nine, forming a kaleidoscope pattern that is mesmerising. Each ‘Collider’ block is made up of half-square triangles, half-rectangle triangles and quarter-square-triangles”. As you look at the design, new shapes start to show themselves, creating a truly enticing pattern.
While they are very different crafts, quilting and cross stitching are actually very similar, as they are both relaxing, rewarding hobbies and great for our mental health. Claire likes to describe quilting as “sewing memories together, to last forever." Why not team up with a quilter you know to create Collider Quilt together!
Our Collider Quilt cross stitch kit and pattern is great for beginners; each section is easy to follow as every block is a single colour and touching the next section so there’s not too much counting involved! You only need 5 DMC thread colours to create this simple yet exciting pattern that would be suitable for any cross stitcher.

These lonely little crosses, known as confetti stitches, often put beginners off attempting otherwise lovely patterns. But with the right techniques, confetti stitches can become just another enjoyable part of your stitching journey.
