Welcome to the Caterpillar Cross Stitch 'Stitcher of the Month' competition for September 2021 where the winner will walk away with a £20 gift voucher! I love this community we've built together and I want to showcase the personality and story of a special stitcher each month.
Every one of you is so valued and I want to recognise and celebrate your contributions through this monthly giveaway. On the first day of every month, I'll ask for your nominations. You can nominate yourself or someone else.
Simply email us at support@caterpillarcrossstitch.com (with Stitcher of the Month in the subject line) with your full name, location and include:
1. 3 x photos of some recent stitching (any design or brand)
2. 1 x clear, well lit, high resolution photo of yourself or the nominee
3. Let us hear about your personality, background and experience with stitching including a tip for beginners (300 words minimum please)
4. Your favourite piece, how you started stitching and why you love it!
The winner will receive a £20 Caterpillar Cross Stitch gift voucher and have their work shared on social media, our website and in the next email! At the end of each month, the Caterpillar Cross Stitch team will pick one winner based on the set criteria: creativity, interesting story, enjoyment and passion for cross stitch and overall impression. The winner will be contacted by email and will be interviewed for our blog and social media channels.

Moe has been stitching for as long as I have known her (which is now 8 years). We met through flyball (a dog sport) and her favourite spot is either in the ring with one of her eight dogs (Rubix, Bonnie, Ludo, Risk it, Quiz, Lodgik, Puzzle and Thor) or sat in her chair in the caravan stitching away!!
She makes the most beautiful pieces of artwork which she gifts for special events, to people in her friendship circle, sends to charities that are close to her heart (Spaniel Aid UK) to raise money in auctions and hangs them in her home. Her dogs are her world and she has recently fostered and then adopted a Bretton Spaniel from Spain called Thor, but even the dogs know that it is quiet time when she is stitching.
She loves stitching Bothy Threads designs and has gifted one to me. The hummingbird one is my favourite and I cannot wait to have it framed and put in my sewing room. As a child, my mum taught me that the back should be as neat as the front and Moe’s work is so neat and tidy on the back it is amazing!
At Christmas, she makes small handmade cards which are small pieces of cross stitch in lovely cardboard surrounds. I know the time that goes into this and so they are very special when they arrive.
I cannot say for sure why Moe cross stitches, however I think it is her down time. She has quite a stressful job and cross stitch gives her mental health a boost. I also believe she loves giving people framed pieces of joy, she always knows exactly the right gift for weddings, births and just to make people smile. She also enjoys using her talent to raise small amounts of money for charity. She recently made coasters with the pink ribbon on for Breast Cancer Research and she sold these at a flyball event, donating all profits to the charity.
Moe encouraged me to pick up a needle and thread again. I love dressmaking and crochet but had never really had a go at cross stitch. Her advice to me was to get the preparation right, so count, count and count again before you make your first stitch. Make sure you have your threads laid out in a manageable way so that they do not become a tangled mess and take your time. She also said that she stitches a little bit of love (and probably dog hair!) into each stitch and that is certainly evident in the pieces she has given me.

The Coronation of King Charles III will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury on the morning of May 6th, 2023 at Westminster Abbey. The ceremony will see the King be crowned alongside Queen Consort Camilla.
